How To Drive Josh Crazy

For this experiment, all you need is a glass dish and a metal utensil.  Then just scrape the utensil along the glass dish and watch Josh's eyes get big and steam start coming out his ears.  Mike is very good at it if you have any questions.

New Meat

We went out to eat last night and Josh ordered a taco.  The waitress said "Chicken, Beef or Pork?"  Josh said "Chickenbeef."  We all had a good laugh.

Gideon

Gideon has had a good, long life. It's about time he starts thinking about heading to the other side.  I admit that I'm ready for him to move on also.  I'm tired of all the dog hair...everywhere!  I hate that I can't go to the bathroom in the middle of the night without him panting at me to let him outside even though we both know he doesn't need to go.  It drives me nuts that Josh can't go into another room without Gideon going with him and this often involves him calling "Gideon...Gideon....Gideon....Gideon..." a million and a half times.  Since Chief passed away, we can't leave Gideon alone in the house for 5 minutes without him getting into mischief.  I've lost a lot of bread that way.  Lately he's decided that he no longer has to obey when I call him.  So I'll let him out to go to the bathroom and he'll randomly take off running halfway down the street. Tragically I can't whistle and my yelling voice just hasn't been doing the trick, so I end up having to chase him down and drag him all the way back home.  It's miserable.
Gideon spends his time in the garage when we're not home and then comes out to greet us when we open the garage door.  It's hard to see him, especially when he darts around like a lunatic and Mike has taken to saying something like "If we're lucky we'll run him over."  I usually laugh.  Josh scowls.  When Mike lets him out to go to the bathroom he'll often say "Go potty and don't come back."  Once again, I laugh and Josh scowls.  Well, yesterday I guess Josh had had enough of this and said "If you tell Gideon to leave and not come back and he doesn't come back, I'm not going to talk to you for a year."  Mike and I tried not to laugh but it was tough.  Mike then started to give him a hard time about the whole thing but Josh wanted nothing to do with it.  He then said "And if you run him over, it's the same thing!"
Mike said "I hope I don't run him over because then I'd get guts all over my tires and that would be gross."
"That's what you get for running him over!" Josh yelled back.

SEP

Josh had his 2nd Term SEP on Thursday and it actually went pretty well.
He even got a 'Satisfactory' for Stays on Task...that's great! His teacher did say that he gets distracted easily and that she has to specifically ask him every morning if he got his morning work done, but hey, I'll take it.

He had 100% on all his homework. The rest of his scores were ok. I can definitely tell which weeks I was on top of spelling words and the weeks I just let him wing it.  Oh well.  He should be up to his 6's for math facts and he's only on 4 so that's something that needs to improve but his overall grasp of math is not bad.  She said that overall it is a great report.  Then she asked if I had any questions.  Yep. I asked how his behavior had been and if it had improved since the beginning of the year.  She said that it had kind of improved but then there was Christmas break and it kind of got worse again.  Then I asked about reading.  He was behind at the beginning of the year and also at the end of the first term, so I was a little nervous to hear the results.  She had to go look it up but then she came back with a huge smile and said that he had caught up and was exactly where he was suppose to be.  I was so excited!! I've seen a huge difference when he reads at home and I'm glad that he's worked so hard to catch up.  I gushed praises to him as the meeting ended and while we were walking out to the car.  I was so giddy with excitement that I was sure I was about to explode.  Josh finally opens his mouth to speak and I stop and wait, just knowing that he's as excited about all of this as I am.  He says "Mom, Bode's Dad invited us over to watch Puss 'N Boots." Can we go?"

Piano

Last Friday we went to Jake and Jen's house for Faffle Friday. (Thanks guys!)  Josh had a great time.  After almost everyone had left, we were sitting around talking with M Ray and he was telling us about how one of his daughters is amazing at the piano.  He said "She plays by ear."  To which Josh piped up and said "I play by book." Congratulations.

Telepathic

I was practicing the piano this morning when Josh came in with a big grin on his face and said "Mom, did you think you were playing a different song than you were?"
"Mmm, no?" I said, unsure of what his point was but trying to make sure I didn't hurt his feelings.  "Why?"
"Because when you were playing I was singing a different song in my head and then I heard the piano playing the song in my head.  So I thought really hard about it and tried to make it so that you could hear my song too."
"Hmmm."  What do you say to that?  "What song was it?"
"Oh, just one I was making up."  And he starts singing "I love playing my DS.  It is so fun it is.  Have a holly jolly Christmas Mom."

(As a side not, Josh was watching me type this and I had put a period after "fun" and he stopped me and told me that there wasn't a period after that word, it wasn't until after 'it is'.)
