Stake Conference
We had stake conference a couple weeks ago and so I brought some candy hearts for Josh to snack on, a copy of the Friend and then some paper and a pen for him to draw with. When he got out the paper and pen, he drew a circle with four lines coming out of it and a head of sorts. He then writes "you" at the top and hands it to Mike. Mike looks at it and then looks at Josh who is silently laughing like this is the funniest thing ever. Mike just looks confused. So I lean over and explain to him that when he's with his Uncle Dave at church, they draw silly pictures of each other and pass it back and forth. Understanding dawns on Mike's face and he turns to Josh and gives him a joking mean face. Josh cracks up. "That's you as a dog" he whispers. Then Mike starts to draw a picture for Josh and I just roll my eyes. Dave's pictures are always silly and goofy, like a boy wearing underwear with a brown paper bag over his head. Mike draws a face with a mustache and hands it back over to Josh. He barely gives him a smile. Poor Josh, he needs Dave.
St. Patrick's Day
I'm not sure what I'm going to do when Josh grows up and stops believing in things like Santa Claus and Leprechauns. Luckily, this year wasn't a problem. In years past the 'Leprechaun' has been kind of naughty and made messes. I decided to have him turn over a new leaf because honestly, I was tired of cleaning up after him. So this year, he left some green shamrocks around the house with different things attached to them. He left a green sucker, green kool aid, green sour punch strings, Lucky Charms cereal and a dollar bill. What a nice guy right? And then just for fun, I put some green food coloring in Josh's toilet bowl. Then, using one of his toys, I made Leprechaun footprints on the toilet seat with green paint.
Saturday morning Mike had signed up to run a 10K and so I woke Josh up telling him that he needed to get dressed and go to the bathroom. He didn't want to wake up and so Mike said "Happy St. Patrick's Day Josh," to which he replied "Happy St. Patrick's Day Dad." It slowly dawned on him what he had just said and so he gets up out of the recliner and wonders aloud what the Leprechaun did this year. He saw a shamrock hanging on our bedroom doorknob and quickly ran to his room to see if there was one on his too, which there was. Mike said something about the 'pesky' leprechaun and Josh immediately says "He's not pesky. Don't say that or he won't come anymore." He then heads to the bathroom and when he sees the toilet he gives a little yelp. "Mom, Dad, you better come see this." We go into the bathroom and Josh has a huge smile on his face, he was so pleased. Afterwards, he saw the candy hanging from the fan in the family room and laughed when he saw 2 chairs stacked on top of the table with the box of Lucky Charms at the top. Last year the Leprechaun had turned our milk green and so Josh ran to the fridge to see if he had done it again. He was disappointed to see that it was still white. I had Josh go get dressed and told him that I would get his cereal ready for him. I put a drop of food coloring in the bottom of his bowl before filling it up with cereal. When he came back, I poured the milk in. After a few minutes I told him to look at his milk and he was shocked that it was green. He ran to the fridge and said "is THIS the milk that you used?"
"Yep" I said. "You watched me pour it." He came back to the table speechless. Later he told me that he had heard the Leprechaun during the night walking on the toilet. Right.
