Yesterday for example, he came to me while he was getting ready for church and said "Guess what? My stomach just farted."
But what really has me cracking up right now is his obsession with deodorant. It all started on Saturday when I had him go run a mile to start training for the Kids Marathon that's coming up in May. He had 2 friends go with him and when they got home they were all pretty sweaty. Josh said "Mom, next time you go to the store, can you buy my some deodorant?"
"How come?" I asked.
"Because the fourth grade teachers all say that we stink."
"Did they tell you specifically that you stink?"
"No, they just tell everyone after we get in from recess. They say that we stink and that we need to wear deodorant."
"Oh. Well, I think I have one you can have right now."
I started walking to the bathroom to give him an extra one that I had on hand for Mike when he says "Is it a new one?"
I laughed. "Of course it's a new one, I'm not going to give you one that we've already used."
That satisfied him and, after opening it and showing him how to use it, I headed back into the kitchen with his friends. He came out a few minutes later saying "Mmm, I smell really good." He turned to his friends and, while holding his arms up, said "Do you want to smell my pits? They smell really good. Come on, come smell them." One of his friends, Brady, shrugged his shoulders and went and stuck his nose in Josh's pit.
"Mmm, it does smell good" he said.
Josh turned to his other friend, Kayden, and repeated his offer. Kayden wisely declined. I said "I agree with Kayden, that's just gross Josh!"
I thought that was the end of it but oh no. Sunday we went to stake conference and just after we sat down, Josh said "Can you smell that?"
I sniffed and shook my head.
"It's my deodorant" he said with a big grin on his face.
Later that day, out of the blue he said "So whenever a bad smell starts to come to me, I can just smell my deodorant."
And then last night he said that he wanted to wake up early this morning so that he could take a shower. I was shocked. It is a fight to get him to take a shower once a week and now he's asking to wake up early to take one?? I said sure but couldn't figure out why he would do this until he said "Then if I take a shower I can put on some more deodorant before school." I can only hope that this will last.
