Good-bye

Ever since Josh was little, he's loved talking on the phone.  When one of Mike's brothers would call, he would have Josh answer by saying 'bueno.' Now that Josh is old enough and fast enough to beat me to the phone, he answers it "hello, who is this?"  His greeting may have changed but the way he ends his conversations has not.  "Ok, bye, love you."  If the person on the other end of the line is lucky, Josh will do this at an appropriate point in the conversation.  The rest of the time, he will just do it whenever he feels like it.  If it's in the middle of your sentence, or his for that matter, he will often times abruptly say his closing line and then hand the phone over.  He's done.  At least they know they're loved, right?  Ok, bye, love you.

Healthy Food

During homework time yesterday, Josh told me that he was hungry and wanted something to eat.  I gave him some choices: apple, grapes, or pretzels.  He did not like his options.  This lead us into an hour of whining and crying because, as he said "You only want me to eat healthy stuff and I'm tired of eating healthy stuff!"  Rough life.  I asked if he was ready for dinner and after another few minutes of complaining he said that he was but with a stipulation.  "I want REAL dinner, like the kind we have when dad's home." Ok?  Because when he's not home we have...what?  It wasn't worth the argument so I again gave him 3 choices.  Quesadilla, Mac and cheese, or Egg Rolls and Rice.  "Whatever you choose mom" he said.  I guess I can add those to my list of 'real' dinners.  We ended up having quesadilla's and life was right once again.

Church

Two weeks ago Mike, Josh and I were asked to speak in church.  The topic was James 1:22. 'Be ye doers of the word and not hearers only.'  We had two weeks to prepare and I was stressing out.  Josh, however, never thought twice about it.  I gave him the idea to use the story of the wise man and the foolish man and he took it from there.  I had him explain to me what it meant and how it related to the topic scripture, and then we jotted down a few major keywords to help him remember what to say.  I had him practice it everyday for the 4 days leading up to the talk, and he did great.  Sunday came and he was the first one to speak.  Without any hesitation he got his notes and walked right up to the microphone.  He gave a wonderful talk.  He did have to pause twice to cough into his elbow, which he brought right in front of the microphone, but hey, no ones perfect.  Mike and I then gave our talks and they were okay.  I was just so impressed that my 6 year old could put his own talk together and present it in front of so many people without being nervous or shy. He's pretty amazing.
