My sister in law, Allison, has activities planned for every Tuesday throughout the Summer. Her and her sisters and mother all get together and plan them out and have done so for the last 3 years. She invited me to some last year and they were pretty fun. Josh loves to play with his cousins and I love that he get's to learn, see, and do interesting things that I would never even think of. Well, today was the first activity of the summer. We hiked up to The Cross. I'm still babysitting Lyndsey and had strapped her into a front pack. Thinking it would be a little awkward to carry my hydration pack on my back, Josh volunteered to carry it for me. We ended up sticking the water pouch in his school backpack and then letting the tube hang out. He also carried my phone, camera, and then some basics for Lyndsey. It was quite the hike. I knew things were going to be interesting when we had to climb/fall down a rocky hill to get to the trail. On the way up, we walked through mud and had to climb up a rocky slope.
It was pretty steep. Josh was so good to me though. Every little bit he would stop and offer me some water. Occasionally I would decline his offer but he would insist telling me that it's really hot and the hike is really hard. We made it to the top and it was very anti-climatic. So we took a picture with the windmills in the background instead of the cross. Josh was a trooper. He never complained about having to carry a backpack even though he was the only one who did. What a great kid.
