Twinkly Happy Hollidays 2

The last time I posted was in March?!  That's terrible.  Believe it or not, Josh is still alive and well.  I've just been a slacker and haven't posted anything.  Here are some random Josh quotes and stories to help catch you up.

Last week Huds asked Josh to read him the "Frozen" book that I have.  All was going well and they reached the end where there are pictures of all the characters.  Josh  had Huds name all the characters, which he did perfectly, but instead of stopping, he kept asking him to repeat them, especially Kristoff.  After Huds repeated it more than a handful of times, Josh  turns to me and says, "I like it when he says Kristoff....because it sounds like pissed off!"

We were having hamburgers for dinner during the summer and the buns were from the local bakery and were not precut.  I asked Josh if he wanted a knife and he said "Nope. I just pry it open.  That's how MEN do it."

While camping at Yuba, Josh  saw Mike's deodorant and said "Is this dads?" I said yes and after smelling it he replied "Mmmm...it smells like onion.  I bet the fish are going to like that!"

One morning at breakfast we were talking about syrup and Josh was asking where it came from.  Thinking that if he heard the right answer he would know, I gave him two options saying "syrup comes from either oaks or maples." Josh then said "I'm going to say oaks because that's what we have a lot of around here."

One day Mike and I were talking about our heritage/skin color and I said "I'm brown and your white" to which Josh pipes up and says "and that makes me tan!

Mike had come home from work super tired one day and had fallen asleep on the couch.  Josh  said "One day I'll be a good sleeper like dad.  Once he's asleep he can sleep for a long time."

Last week we went to a Halloween store to see if there was anything that Mike wanted to use to decorate his office.  As soon as we got out of the car, Josh grabbed my hand.  As we started walking through the store, his grip got tighter and tighter.  By the time we were halfway through the store there were tears threatening to spill out of his eyes.  We hadn't even reached the scary costumes yet!  A minute later I glanced down and he was crying.  I asked if he wanted to wait out in the truck and he said yes.  I handed him the keys and he just looks at me and says 'but I don't want to go by myself!'  I ended up walking him out of the store holding his hand and covering his eyes.  It reminded me of the days when he wouldn't even want to go into a grocery store because the decorations were too scary for him.

This year for Halloween he has decided to be a student from Gryffindor.  We bought him a cape and then I helped him make his own wand.  He's super excited.  Mike is going to be the Hulk and is pretty creepy looking from a distance.  He bought some hulk hands and has enjoyed getting into boxing matches with me.  This torments Gideon to no end and he starts barking and jumping around until Mike leaves me alone.

Two Sundays ago our family was asked to speak in Sacrament meeting on the 10th Article of Faith.  Josh did an excellent job.  He recited the Article of Faith from memory and then proceeded to speak on it without even looking at the notes that he wrote.  He even added things in that weren't in his notes about Israel's name being changed and what the word tribes mean.  It was so neat to listen to him and to see how grown up he has gotten.

A few weeks ago we went and saw the play "A Fisherman and His Wife" at BYU.  Josh  LOVES plays.  We had a great time.

Josh got an awesome surprise in the mail from his Aunt Kat.  It was a rat.  He had to bring it to dinner with us and had a great time feeding it french fries.

I sometimes wish there were other people here to witness Josh in all his glory.  Many times I'm left scratching my head not sure how to respond to him.  The other morning he came into the kitchen where I was cooking breakfast and said "My head hurts.  Either 'cause I stretched or because I woke up on a windy day!"

Yesterday for example, he came to me while he was getting ready for church and said "Guess what?  My stomach just farted."

But what really has me cracking up right now is his obsession with deodorant.  It all started on Saturday when I had him go run a mile to start training for the Kids Marathon that's coming up in May.  He had 2 friends go with him and when they got home they were all pretty sweaty.  Josh said "Mom, next time you go to the store, can you buy my some deodorant?"
"How come?" I asked.
"Because the fourth grade teachers all say that we stink."
"Did they tell you specifically that you stink?"
"No, they just tell everyone after we get in from recess. They say that we stink and that we need to wear deodorant."
"Oh.  Well, I think I have one you can have right now."
I started walking to the bathroom to give him an extra one that I had on hand for Mike when he says "Is it a new one?"
I laughed. "Of course it's a new one, I'm not going to give you one that we've already used."
That satisfied him and, after opening it and showing him how to use it, I headed back into the kitchen with his friends.  He came out a few minutes later saying "Mmm, I smell really good."  He turned to his friends and, while holding his arms up, said "Do you want to smell my pits?  They smell really good.  Come on, come smell them."  One of his friends, Brady, shrugged his shoulders and went and stuck his nose in Josh's pit.
"Mmm, it does smell good" he said.
Josh turned to his other friend, Kayden, and repeated his offer. Kayden wisely declined.  I said "I agree with Kayden, that's just gross Josh!"

I thought that was the end of it but oh no.  Sunday we went to stake conference and just after we sat down, Josh said "Can you smell that?"
I sniffed and shook my head.
"It's my deodorant" he said with a big grin on his face.

Later that day, out of the blue he said  "So whenever a bad smell starts to come to me, I can just smell my deodorant."

And then last night he said that he wanted to wake up early this morning so that he could take a shower.  I was shocked.  It is a fight to get him to take a shower once a week and now he's asking to wake up early to take one?? I said sure but couldn't figure out why he would do this until he said "Then if I take a shower I can put on some more deodorant before school."  I can only hope that this will last.

Josh cracks me up sometimes.  He was playing out in the field behind our house when he came running home asking for two plastic baggies.  I asked what they were for and he said that he had found some stuff that he wanted to keep.  He then 'confided' in me that he wanted to use it to prevent loneliness.  I was surprised but deeply touched to hear him say that.  He then continued talking about how he hoped when he was older then he could do experiments on it so that he could help everyone that was ever lonely. He started to explain "The stuff is kind of like cement and dirt, and I know it will work because I saw this thing on Pokemon that......"

On Sunday Josh was looking through the February Friend magazine when he came across an article that talked about the steps that you needed to take to be able to live with Heavenly Father again.  He came to me and excitedly told me that he only had 3 more steps to do.
"Only 3?" I asked.
"Yep.  Because I was already born, so I can check that one off.  I said a prayer, another check.  I read a scripture.  I basically have Faith and Repentance.  I was already baptized and I have the Holy Ghost.  I took the sacrament on Sunday.  So all I have left to do is get the Priesthood, go to the Temple and Return to Heavenly Father and then I'll be done!"  I smiled. I'm not sure he understands that he has to keep doing some of those things for the rest of his life.  I tried to correct him but honestly, I didn't try very hard.  He was so excited to see all that he had accomplished and how close he was to the 'end.'  I hope that he continues to do these things so that he can return Home one day.

This week is the Book Fair at Josh's school.  He had found a book that was a guide to the newest Pokemon characters and he told me that he REALLY needed it.  It was $6 but I wasn't all that convinced that I wanted to buy it for him.  I finally told him that I would pay for half of whatever he wanted at the book fair.  He was thrilled and talked about how helpful this book will be and how he couldn't wait to get it.  Well Monday he came home from school and said that they weren't allowed to buy anything that day because it was just a preview day.  "But I found the Pokemon book.  It was really hard to find, you know why?  Cause it's only like this big!" he said as he held his forefinger and thumb 1/4 inch apart.  "Can you believe it?! They want $6 for that book and I was like no way!  Cause that's going to have like hardly any Pokemon in it so it's a waste.  I found another book about 3 kids that have super powers and it's only $6 so can I get that one instead?"  I agreed reminding him that I would pay for half.  He was so excited for this morning that he begged me that if he got all his morning things done by 8:30 if I could drive him to school early so he could go to the book fair.  I agreed and it was one of the more pleasant mornings that we've have in a long time. I hope this book is all that he thinks it should be.

I noticed that Josh would often ask us to play wii games and watch movies together.  I thought it was his way of sneaking in more screen time but after a while I started to wonder if that was really his motive or not.  So I read the book  "The Five Love Languages of Children" in the hopes of understanding him just a little bit better.  Turns out, quality time is Josh's main love language.  His scores were:

Quality Time: 6
Words of Affirmation: 5
Gifts: 5
Acts of Service: 2
Physical Touch: 2

Before I had him take the test, I asked him if he knew that I loved him.  He said yes and I asked how he knew.  He said "Because you do things for me like get me clothes, make my lunch, and help me with homework.  There's other stuff but I don't remember right now."

I then asked him if he knew that Mike loved him and how he knew that.  He said "Because he does things with me like boys night out.  And sometimes when I'm bored he thinks of fun things that we can do like play Mario Kart."

We had a FHE about journal keeping and Mike talked about how pictures can tell stories too.  Josh loved looking at all of his drawings and was so impressed.  It was so sweet to see him looking up at Mike with all the love and admiration he had for him.

Here's Huds helping me count the sugar cookies.

Josh has gone ice fishing with Mike a couple times this winter.  He has enjoyed playing in the snow and sliding on the ice but he hadn't gotten into fishing until this past weekend.  His uncle had brought an extra pole and after getting frustrated that he wasn't catching anything out of his hole, he let Josh  use it while he switched to a new hole.  It proved to be a jack pot.  Josh turned into a pro fisher after catching the first one and would immediately put another worm on his hook and cast again.  He caught 5 fish.

Mike use to always tease Josh  and say that we were going fishing and it would always get Josh riled up.  Well, last night Josh  asked what was happening on Saturday and Mike reminded him that he had to go to a scout belt loop class.  And then, just to bug, he added "and then we're going fishing."  To Mike's surprise Josh  said "Yes!!  I was going to ask if we could go ice fishing."  I'm glad they have fun going.

This morning Josh  came into the kitchen and said "So I have another reason to convince you to give me a brother or sister."
"Ok..."
"Well, if I don't have a brother or sister then my kids won't have any uncles or aunts.  And I won't have anyone to go fishing with when I'm older."
"You do remember that I can't have kids anymore, right bud?"
"Yeah, but couldn't you just get me one some other way?"

We talked about adoption for a minute but it was so sad to see how much thought he had put into it.  I told him that he would have to stay close with his cousins and then they could all go ice fishing together.  That seemed to satisfy him for the moment but I'm sure he'll bring it up again.  Kind of heartbreaking.

Josh  really enjoys reading graphic novels like Pokemon, and Legend of Zelda.  One day he sat down to read and ended up reading for over an hour.  He came out of his room and said "Ugg, now I have a headache because I read a lot."
"You think that's why you have a headache?" I asked.
"Yeah.  Probably cause there's too much words going into my brain at once."

Josh has been doing basketball and he's loving it.  He told me the other day "Mom, I think I really found my sport."  I just smiled and said that I was glad.  It's been kind of interesting to watch him play in the games.  They don't keep score yet so it's just suppose to be a fun, work on your skills, sort of environment.  One of the kids on his team is so competitive that his mom keeps score for him.  Oh brother.  Josh  enjoys running up and down the court and is usually the last one to get to the other side but he has a huge grin on his face.  There are times I can tell that he is racing people or things that are NOT on the court and sometimes he's so involved in something in his head that he's on a completely different planet.  It's cute and I'm glad he's enjoying it.

Funny Story

Josh came into the kitchen last night and said "Mom, I'm really gassy today."
"You are?" I responded.
"Yeah.  And they smell really bad too.  I can't usually smell my own gas but today I can.  And it's really smelly" he said, completely serious.
"Hmm.  Then the polite thing to do would be to make sure that you go into the bathroom when you need to have gas ok?" I replied, trying not to bust up laughing.
"I know.  I'm never having the schools mini corn dogs again!  I had them for lunch today and that's why I have so much gas and why it's so stinky.  Next time I have school lunch and they have mini corn dogs I'm getting the chicken nuggets instead."

Josh has decided that he wants to play basketball this year. I asked Mike if he could kind of give Josh some pointers and teach him how to defend and just go over a few of the rules again.  He did and he and Josh spent the morning guarding and blocking and dribbling the ball.  I was optimistic.  Then he had his first game.  He hasn't changed much since he first started playing organized sports. It wasn't too bad though.  They play man to man and to help the kids remember who they have to guard, they each get a colored wristband.  Then they have to guard the kid on the opposite team that has the same color wristband as them.  Genius!  Well, I found out that Josh listened to Mike during their practice session because he was guarding his kid like none other during the first quarter.  It would have been great...except he was doing it when he was suppose to be on offense too.  Oh well, it was kind of cute.

For Christmas Josh got a very special bey blade, Twisted Tempo.  He was so excited and was thrilled to take it to school with him on Thursday.  Friday he came home from school and I could tell something was bothering him.  He said it was nothing and then after I asked a few more times he broke down crying.  He had lost his beloved Twisted Tempo.  He said he was playing with it outside, then put it in his pocket and ran over to play something else with some other friends.  When they were lining up to go to class, he checked his pocket and it was gone.  He said he went back to look for it and that he even prayed for help but he couldn't find it.  I felt so bad.  I don't know how I'm going to explain to him why his prayer didn't get answered since up til now, they all pretty much have been.  I bought the bey blade from ebay and it came from South Korea but it only cost $9 total so I could totally buy him a new one and not think anything of it, but I don't feel like that's the right thing to do.  Dang it!  It would be so much easier than having to see him look sad when he talks about it.  I guess he has to learn to take better care of his stuff blah blah blah but it's still tough.  He has handled it very well though and I'm proud of him for that.

Josh sure is a funny kid.  It's a good thing I have a phone that I can easily type on so that I can keep track of the random things he said.  So here they are in no particular order.

Me: Josh , you're cute.
Josh : Cute is not a preferred word to boys.  More like handsome.

Josh : Kevin is coming to dessert Sunday?  Heesh! Is he trying to get to know EVERYONE in the family?

While watching a show about some Saints (in whatever country Germany invaded) needing to give their potatoes to the German Saints right after the war, one German lady states that she still thinks that potatoes are good.  Josh  says "She's right you know."
"Really?" I say, thinking he's going to offer up some super spiritual insight.
"Yep, potatoes are really good.  Especially as potato chips and french fries."

Josh:  I got it right off the dot!!

Josh: Mom, do you want to hear the new version of Santa's naughty and nice list?
Me: Ok....
Josh : Creative-naughty.  Survival-nice.
*I still have no idea what that even means.

Josh has started playing a game called Terraria and is loving it.  The other day he came to me and said "Mom, do you know that Terraria is actually older than Minecraft?"
"Nope, I didn't" I replied.
Josh rolled his eyes and said "Probably because you don't know your game play legacy."

This morning I was telling Mike about all the hot flashes I had last night and saying how if this kept up I'd have to take a shower every morning because I was sweating so much.  Josh was listening and piped in saying "I got hot under my blanket when I was watching tv last night.  Then my stomach started growling.  That always happens right before I start sweating."

More phone pics.

This was our gratitude tree.  The thought was that we would each add a leaf every day after dinner for something that we were grateful for and then by Thanksgiving it would be a huge tree full of all our blessings.  It was a little difficult for Josh because the rule was that you couldn't repeat anything that was up there.  It was fun but after just a few days I didn't feel well enough to continue.  I'm hoping next year our tree will be even bigger!  The Piglett coloring page in the corner is from Josh.  I was having a super rough day and he could tell, so he got Lynds to help color a picture and then hung it on the wall to help me feel better.  It was so sweet of him.

Since I get to spend time with Huds, here are some pics of him too.  Here he is making a snowman out of marshmallows  I drew the outline with glue and then he stuck them on.  It cracked me up that he had to clap after EVERY marshmallow he put down.

Here he is eating a mini muffin.  When I gave it to him I told him what it was and then said "Isn't that so cute?  It's just a little guy."  When he was done he asked for more by saying "little guy, little guy?"

Mike was so excited for it to finally snow enough for him to use his toy!  He was so funny because he ended up going in late to work and then coming home early all so that he could plow the driveway.

This was the first year that Josh was in on the Santa secret.  I was worried that he wouldn't be as excited for the Christmas activities now that he knew, but that was not the case.  He took it upon himself to hide our elf, Sarah, for Huds and Lynds in the morning.  This was his first hiding place.  I thought it was so sweet that she was in the manager scene until Josh came and added a straw.  I asked him what it was for and he shrugged saying "I just wanted to put it there."  Ok...

Josh got a Beyblade stadium from Grandma and Grandpa Monsivais for Christmas.  He loves it.  It was so fun to see him 'battling' with Grandma :)

The upside to my surgery was that I got to pick my breakfast and it always had bacon.

Christmas was funny because Mike gave me a 'prank box' for bacon scented dryer sheets.  I totally believed it and only found out it was a trick when he pestered me into opening it up so that I could smell it.

Josh has been busy since last I blogged.  We'll start with random pics from my iphone.

Josh has been busy with homework in 4th grade.  He's started doing book reports and they have been interesting. Here he is holding up a poster for Superfudge.

And this is a pumpkin that he painted to look like the main character from the "Boxcar Children" book.
Perfect likeness!!  After it got graded we cut it open to get all the seeds out.  Huds and Lynds loved it.

Josh had his first cavity this year!  We took him to our amazing dentist and he got it taken care of super quick.  Josh did a fantastic job.  He didn't cry or complain and he held still the whole time.  Great job!  This is a pic of him waiting to get his cavity filled.

And here are Huds and Lynds in the waiting room...so cute.

In October Josh came home with a flier for school choir.  I asked if he wanted to do it and to my surprise he said yes.  He had to be to school at 8am (an hour early) three times a week for almost 3 months.  I was sure that after the first or second time I would have to fight him about it but it never came to that.  He did not complain once!  It was a miracle. He loved it and was so excited to perform for the school and then for the parents.  'Ria was able to come and he was so happy she was there.  If I can ever figure out how to post a video I'll post it on here because it's hilarious!  After every song he would take a deep breath and exhale like 'Whew, that was so tough."  He's a cutie.

Camping

When we go camping with Mike's family, Josh always BEGS to go on four wheeler/Ranger rides.  It's like his camping trip is not complete if he hasn't gone on at least one four wheeler ride a day.  After much soul searching and price checking and going back and forth a million and a half times, Mike finally decided to buy a four wheeler. Mike picked it out all by himself and although I had no say, he did a pretty good job.  We were excited to take it up camping over Labor Day weekend and I expected Josh to practically live on it while we were there.  I couldn't have been more wrong.  He didn't even ask to go for a ride and only went when we begged him to go.  What a bugger.  Despite that, Mike and I had a great time going for rides and checking out trails.

Yep, we already made it an official cougar fan too!  Now lest you think Mike is getting soft with his money, the main purpose of this 'toy' is to push snow off all the expensive concrete that we put in last year.  See, protecting his investment :) Playing with it in the mountains is just a perk.

Josh did have fun camping though and loved playing Beyblades with his cousins.  Luckily I brought a laundry basket for him to use as a stadium.  Silly me, I thought it was for our dirty clothes.
Josh playing with AJ and Mason Huff

We also spent some time as a family going fishing.  Mike taught Josh how to cast and he did pretty good.  Josh was the only one to catch a fish during this fishing trip and did the whole thing by himself...minus putting the worm on the hook....watching his bubble/line to know that he had a fish....oh and getting the hook out....and actually touching the fish....ok, so all he really did was cast the hook out and then reel the fish in but he did it amazingly.

Our trailer has 4 beds and Josh use to sleep on the bunk bed above Mike and I.  That was until Josh fell off his bed and landed on Mike one to many times.  Now Josh is banned from the bunk bed.  So he now sleeps on Gideon's bed.  They usually sleep good together and it makes Josh happy because he's always begging Gideon to sleep with him at home and he never will. One morning I woke up and couldn't find Gideon.  It took a minute to realize that he was stuck beneath Josh's legs.  Poor dog.

Wednesday, August 28, 2013

I was cleaning out the office the other day and came across a few quotes from Josh.

"I got some of that chewy, buggery spit."

"I think that the plant eating dinosaurs went to heaven and the meat eating dinosaurs went to hell."

Here are some from 2010.

"I told Gideon don't lick his 'propriate' stuff." Hahaha, classic.

Having just learned what RIP meant and then getting a vampire shaped whistle  for Halloween, Josh said  "I got a vampire whistle and he didn't sleep in peace."

"I'm glad I wasn't born a dog cause I didn't want 'cartlige' in my ear."
I responded "You do have cartilage in your ear."
"Yeah but I don't have to crank it."

Josh: "I forgot something but I can't remember what it is."
Me: "I don't know what it is you forgot but you still need to do your jobs."
Josh: "Oh yeah! That's what it is."

"My body's a little sloppy today cause I'm so tired."

Me: "That was a good somersault."
Josh: "A summer-sault?" Pause. "I wonder how you do a 'night-time-sault'?"

Happy Birthday!

Josh is officially 9.  Everyone keeps telling him that he's getting old and that it's so exciting that he's almost double digits.  When someone told him that yesterday, he pondered it for a moment and then said "Next year at my birthday I'll be double digits and then Tyler (Valgardson) will come home!"  Cute kid.
This year for his birthday we gave him a small bubble gum machine and the Smurf 2 game for the wii.  I had asked and asked if he wanted a pinata or a party or blah blah blah and he was always like "no, I'm fine."  Well, two weeks ago on Saturday night, he tells me that he does want a birthday party.  Really?  The night before we're leaving to go to Yuba for 5 days?  The next day at church he 'invites' his friends to this 'birthday party' he's supposedly having the following Saturday. Great.  Since there's not much I could do about it before we left, I choose to ignore it until we're driving home from Yuba.  I then talk to Josh about his party and much to his disappointment, he agrees to push it back to this Saturday instead.  He can't make up his mind on what he wants to do for the party so finally I say, all excitedly, "hey!  How about I do a surprise party for you?!  I'll plan everything.  What do you think?"  He thought it was a great idea.  He he he.
I settled on a lego's theme since that's one of the things he's sort of into right now. He didn't want cake and asked for snicker doodle cookies instead.  Then we bought those personal ice cream cups with the wooden spoons and he was happy.  I was stupid and said the party was from 11-2pm.  Way too long!  Josh had fun though and now it's over and I've already blogged about it so, it's ok.

Catching Up

Wow, it has been  a long time since I've made a legit post on here.  Whenever anything happens I always think that it is so funny or unique that I'll never forget it.  Yeah, you'd think I would have learned better than that by now.  By the way, I needed something out of my brain book the other day, and guess what?  It was right where I thought it was....ha!

Weirdo:
Josh was hoping around the house a while ago with an empty crystal light container stuck on his foot. "This hurts!" he kept saying.  When I told him to just take it off he said "I have to leave this on for exactly one hour to prove that I'm a man."

Speedy Spaniard
Josh ran the mile run for the Speedy Spaniard and did great.  About 9:30 min mile.

Goldfish and Snails
Josh decided a few months ago that he wanted to get another goldfish.  After his first two died early deaths, we figured that maybe it was a fluke and if we got them from a real pet store, than maybe they might last just a little bit longer.  I took him to Petsmart and he found a goldfish that he absolutely couldn't live without.  He then decided that it would quickly become lonely if there wasn't something else in there with it.  He found a golden mystery snail and after finding out that they can happily coexist, I let Josh buy them.  We had prepared  for this goldfish by making sure the water had been sitting out for a few days so that it was just perfect and we made sure to add it's original store water too so that it wouldn't be shocked.  Alas, the fish only survived 2 hours.  The snail on the other hand, somehow survived until just the other day.  I'm sad to admit that it probably died a very slow and painful death by starvation. At first it tried to eat the dead fish but Josh decided he wanted to flush the fish down the toilet instead.  He then feed the snail two roly poly bugs, but that was it.  The day it finally kicked the bucket, Josh came into my room and said "apparently snails float to the top when they're dead."  Great.  I try not to frequent that bathroom and just realized this morning that the dead snail was still floating around in there.  I told Josh to go and take care of it.
"Can I keep the shell?" he asked.
"Eww doesn't that have a dead snail body in there?"
"Not anymore!  It's real easy to pull out when it's all dead.  Ugg!  That stinks.  Mom?  This dead snail really stinks bad!"
"Great, that's disgusting.  No, you can't keep the shell, it's all garbage."
"Ok.  It stinks anyway."

Yuba
We had a great time at Yuba.  The only downer was that Josh had hurt his toe a few days before we left and so we had to find some creative ways to keep it clean and sand free.  I went for the quadruple protection approach.  First I covered it with a band aid, then wrapped it with some cushioned waterproof tape and finally I covered it with a finger cover and made him wear water shoes.  It was a success!!  I was pretty proud of myself for being so amazing and Josh was able to enjoy the sand, mud and water without worrying about his toe.
One morning while we were there Mike was giving Josh a hard time about something and Josh finally said "will you quit harassinating me!" Mike and I laughed so hard.

Bike shows
This summer Josh teamed up with some of the kids in our neighborhood and they have been spending a lot of time riding bikes.  A few weeks ago they somehow came up with the brilliant idea of putting on a bike show...for money.  They went around and invited all the neighbors to this bike show and charged them $.50.  I even had to pay.  They started off by doing bike 'tricks' and then did a race down to the end of the street and back.  I finally had to put a stop to it when they continually went back and harassed the neighbors who never showed up.

Back to School
Josh doesn't really NEED anything for back to school, not even new clothes.  But I asked him anyway and he said "Can we just go to Office Max so I can look and then I'll tell you what I need?"  Oh brother.  Every time that stupid Office Max commercial comes on his eyes light up and he finds another thing he thinks he needs for school.

Huds
Here's a picture of Huds after waking up from a nap.  I think it's so funny that he sleeps with his hands behind his head and that he gets so sweaty that his hands get all wrinkly.  I promise my house is not THAT hot.

Josh's Toe

Blehh!  Turns out I get super squeamish around owies.  Josh was trying to get on his bike while holding his marshmallow gun and he accidentally dropped his bike on his big toe.  It broke half of his toenail off and it was disgusting.  This is a picture the day after it happened.  We just washed it and it still looks all gross.

Last night it was raining pretty good here.  Josh had been telling and retelling us that this was NOT a
May shower.  "A May shower is what we had at lunch time.  This is like a May storm!"
Mike then said "If April showers bring may flowers, then what do May showers bring?"
Josh replied "Water."

This morning for scriptures we started reading the book of Ether.  Josh got a kick out of all the 'genealogy' versus.  When he got to the last one that said 'son of Jared' he says "We know that one."
"We do?" I questioned.
"Yeah, I think he was in first Nephi."

We kept reading and got to verse 41 that says "Go to and gather together thy flocks, both male and female, of every kind; and also of the seed of the earth of every kind; and thy families..."  I asked Josh "What does this remind you of?"
I was thinking of the story of Noah's ark and was surprised when Josh said "Nephi."
"Why Nephi?" I asked.
"Because they had to go and get women too."

He's so cute.

PC Marathon.  This was Josh's 2nd year in a row running this marathon.  He had to run 25 miles prior to Saturday where he ran the last 1.2 miles on the race course.  He loved it.  I wish I would have timed him because he ran pretty fast.  After he finished he said "Mom, I finished strong!"  It was cute.  He's decided that he likes doing the races and wants to sign up for the mile run at the freedom festival.

Why it looks like he and his cousin are praying, I don't know.  I'm pretty sure they weren't.
