Basketball

I signed Josh up to play basketball this year with his promise that he was really going to play and that it wasn't going to be like soccer.  Turns out....it was just like soccer.  Okay, okay, maybe it was a little bit better but when he was twirling around at the wrong end of the court, I just groaned.  He enjoyed it though, of course.  I asked him once if he liked basketball and he said no.  I asked if he liked to play basketball and he said yes.  Go figure.  The season was very short and I'm pretty sure he didn't make any baskets but he did make a few pretty good blocks and a couple of nice steals.  The beginning part of the season he was asking his coach to take him out every few minutes so that he could go get a drink, and then he would refuse the coach when asked if he wanted to go back in.  I finally put a stop to that and told him that he could only go out if his coach asked him to.  It just so happened that during the next game they only had 5 kids show up so they all had to play the whole time anyway, it was great.  After that he was good about staying in.  He's not a bad shot when he's shooting around (on the low hoops) but he gets all confused or crazy during game time. He loved to be the one to pass the ball in bounds and I noticed that he would always pass it to the same kid.  I asked him about it and he said he always passed it to him because he was the best kid on the team to score points.  He was right about that.  Yesterday he brought home 4 tickets from school to the local University's men's basketball game and was super excited.  I agreed that we could go since it was free and we didn't have any other plans, but I told him that he would need to hurry and get his homework done.  He started goofing around instead, so I gently said "You're going to need to hurry and get your homework done so that we can make it to the basketball game tonight."  He stops and looks at me and says "It's a BASKETBALL game? Then never mind, I don't want to go." I asked him what he had thought it was, but he had no idea.  We didn't end up going.
